Saturday I attended a workshop at Ten Seconds Studio given by assemblage artist Michael deMeng, and this is the transformed cigar box I brought home with me. (When I visited his web site today I was shocked to see that my piece vaguely resembled his….I didn’t plan it that way.) It’s the first art class I’ve ever attended, and I was a bit nervous, since I anticipated meeting a bunch of “real” artists. I had no idea what I was getting into or how much stuff I should bring to class or how I was going to be creative “on the spot”. Finally I decided to just treat everything I did as a practice run. No pressure. No competition. It took a lot of pressure off me and was a great learning experience. I really wanted legs on the box, but they kept falling off, so I settled for a few beads along the bottom. I’ll be adding the legs later this week.

So now I have some new skills that I should be able to put to use. Once I get my new tires paid off I’ll be spending some money on paint, a heat gun and a Dremel tool. What an amazing little power tool that Dremel thing is. I’m sure I could use it for some of my home repairs, too.
